The Final Countdown

Finals

As finals week is slowly approaching, the anxiety slowly creeps in and the stress begins.  While you constantly keep the coffee flowing through your veins and the snack pile constantly stacked, here are some good tips to keep you sane and your energy up.

  1. HYDRATE
Like my mother is always telling me, you need to drink more water.  While all that caffeine you are drinking is keeping your eyes open, drinking water helps keep your body functioning properly.  Drinking water while also drinking caffeine helps the caffeine last longer.

     2. Chew Gum

Chewing gum not only will help satisfy your hunger when you feel like you can't stop snacking, but studies have also shown that if you chew gum while studying, and then chew that same type of gum while taking the exam, it helps you recall information.

     3.  Sleep

Significant loss of sleep, like during finals week, has shown that it can actually hurt your performance on that exam.  However if you have to stay up late to study, at least make sure that you get a good nights rest the night before, or get a nap in before your test if it's later in the day (just don't forget to set an alarm).

    4. Clear your Mind

Right before you take your exam look over your stuff one more time, and then take a couple to just breathe and relax.  Tensing up and cramming right before test time will actually make you remember less.

I hope you find these tips helpful and will try some these in the upcoming weeks.  Happy Studying!

The Go-To

The Top-Knot

Every girl has their go-to hairstyle when they're hair is just not cooperating, and for me its the top knot bun. It is just like your favorite pair of jeans, they fit perfectly and always make you feel good.  Whenever, my hair is just not working with me, or I'm just too lazy to do anything with it I just pull it up, twirl it around into a round little ball on my head and then seal it with a hair tie.  The picture tutorial I found on Pinterest, perfectly demonstrates exactly how I do my top knot bun.

The best thing is, there are so many things you can do with a bun this simple.  For instance if you wanted to dress it up a little, simply pull your hair up a little tighter, making the bun look sleeker, and then add a sparkly headband.  Another way to mix it up would be to put your hair in a braided ponytail, and then twirl that into the top knot bun.  This gives it a little different shape and a bit more dimension.

Everyone has their favorite go-to hairstyle be it a bun, a ponytail, a side braid, just go with what makes you comfortable.  Tell me what your go-to style is and why! :)

Humidity and Hair

Humidity and Hair

As April showers have shown to be force to be reckoned with this year, the rain's good friend humidity has also been showing April some love.  And as a female "blessed" with naturally wavy/curly/frizzy hair, humidity and I are not on such great terms.  The best example to me of what humidity can do a persons hair will always be when Monica from Friends goes to Barbados with everyone else and her hair ends up like this:

However, have no fear there are some tricks I have learned after many years of dealing with this "blessing."
  1. Use anti-frizz product! The more consistently used the more it controls the frizz.  Also I find that using while your hair is still wet is when you get the best result. (My personal preference is the Jon Frieda anti-frizz serum. )
  2. Let your hair air dry as opposed to using a blowdryer. From my own experience I have found that blow drying just speeds up the process your growing (wider, not longer).
  3. Braid, braid, braid.  Knowing how to braid, or having a very kind friend or family member that is willing to braid can be your best ally.  There are all different types of braided hairstyles that can go with an type of occasion.  The best source I use for finding new braid hairstyles, is Pinterest (of course)
  4. The Backup bun.  For those days when nothing is helping your hair, there is always the bun that will get the job done.
Let me know if you find these helpful, or have any other tips or ticks :)

Easter

Easter Sunday

Growing up in a house with all girls, any holiday that people may dress up on is a big deal with us.  So naturally, Easter is one of those days.  As catholics we would always get dressed up for church in the morning and then go to my grandparent's house after.  I guess it has just become a tradition of ours that we will all go shopping for Easter dresses together.  However, since moving away I have not been able to participate with my sisters, but they still include me in the tradition by face timing me while they are shopping.

Here are some dresses that I found on Pinterest that I thought would be perfect for Easter:

I really like the back of the dress above as well as the colors of the hydrangeas.  If you have read my other posts you'll know that I am more of a neutral colors person; however, I love the simplicity of this dress.

The next two dresses have similar waistlines and structure.  I chose the neon one because it's Easter and why not add some color on such colorful holiday, while the other was picked because of the beautiful lace overlay.

This last piece is a fun and playful peplum dress that is more fitted than the other dresses.  Although there is a full floral print it is a little more muted which keeps it from being too much.

All of these dresses are beautiful and great for Easter, or really any spring event.  I would have to try on these in order to which one I'd buy; however, my top choice would have to be the sunflower printed neon dress.

Comment below and tell me which one you like!

Field Day

Opening Day is Here

In honor of opening day for Major League Baseball, which is my hands down favorite sport to watch, I thought I'd dedicate a post to it.  Rule number one in going to a baseball game, come prepared.  This can be very different depending on the the time of day of the game and the time of the year.  For instance the outfit that I created below would be more for an afternoon game for this time of year in LA (L.A is my favorite team so I'm pretending that's where I'm going).  However, if this would be a night game, always, always, always bring a jacket, no matter where you are.  I have gone to my fare share of games, throughout the states and one thing I know of is that it always cools off at night and being cold and stuck at a game is not fun.

Field Day

The second rule, which is something my mother preaches religiously, put sunscreen on.  This goes hand-in-hand with the come prepared rule, but this is probably the most important thing you do not want to forget.

Another little tip would be to look at the weather forecast a couple days before and also the day of, because those summer rain storms can be pretty spontaneous sometimes.

The last thing is to just enjoy yourself.  A baseball game is great activity for friends, or family to go to and just spend time with one another without agenda or schedule.  Just enjoy the atmosphere and your company.
